A furnace tune-up isn’t just a quick look and a thumbs-up. A professional tune-up should be thorough, preventative, and focused on safety as much as performance.
To start, a technician should inspect and clean the burners to make sure ignition and combustion are working properly. When burners are dirty, efficiency drops and the system can wear out
Next is the heat exchanger, which is a critical safety step. Cracks or corrosion can lead to carbon monoxide leaks and must be identified early.
A proper tune-up should also include testing electrical components, tightening connections, and checking voltage. Those small problems are often what turn into surprise breakdowns when the furnace is working hardest.
Airflow checks are another key step. This means inspecting the blower motor, measuring airflow, and replacing a filter.
Finally, the technician should test the controls and safety switches, confirm the venting is working correctly, and make sure the furnace is operating within manufacturer specifications.
